Sitting in a bath of beans, waxing a hairy man’s chest or a Sponsored silence, are some of the regular events on the fund raising circuit. However, Odge Celboud well known Tattoo artist and Black flag pal has thought of an exciting and definitely ‘remember able’ idea to raise money for Breakthrough for Breast Cancer this year
Odge the owner of Skin and Ink tattoo Studio on New Cross Road, wanted to really up the ante to raise as much money as possible for the worthy cause: ‘We’re doing ok at the moment and I really wanted to give something back. Hopefully we’ll be able to raise money for a different charity once a year. But I wanted to start with Breast Cancer, as I know the impact that it has on peoples lives.’
On the 7th February 2012, for one whole day the Skin and Ink team will be offering anyone the chance to have the pink ribbon (symbol of Breakthrough for Breast Cancer) tattooed on their skin, to show dedication to the cause.
So far they have had an excellent response to the idea, some people who have had family members fight the disease want to do it as a sign of respect for their struggle, and others just to support the cause and because they feel it’s a beautiful image, like 19 year old Sarah, Breakthrough for Breast Cancer supporter and tattoo fan: ‘I really want to help the cause if I can, but I also think the symbol is dead cute I’ve got the t-shirts from past years for the same reasons, I wanted a new tattoo to add to my collection so this is it.’
The Pink Ribbon symbol will be available in one size only for the price of £25. All proceeds will go to Breakthrough for Breast Cancer.
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK, with nearly 48,000 women and around 300 men diagnosed with the disease each year. All the money raised by Skin & Ink will help Breakthrough for Breast Cancer continue to fund ground-breaking research, campaign for better services and treatments and raise awareness of breast cancer. Through this work the charity believes passionately that the disease can be beaten and the fear of breast cancer removed for good.
