The Seven Inches are from Leeds and claim to be heroes of the DIY/Indie Pop scene there.

They have a manifesto of gibberish which their record label included in the press release. Haven’t  read such utter cobblers for a long time so shan’t bore you with it.

The song, Peruvian Poncho is a nice little paint by numbers pastiche, with over complicated Stooges style piano (complete with leading notes!!) supporting a 2 chord guitar thing, soulish femail bv’s and R and B trumpet.

The lyrics are along the same lines as the Sultans of Ping – Where’s Me Jumper, without said songs charm. You totally end up thinking that The Seven Inches think that they’re very witty indeed, when in fact they ain’t. It’s not even sung well, and the vocals ended up being the weak link for me.

Sheffield and Leeds have high quality garage/retro scenes, and this is very average. Well executed and all, but ultimately a soulless waste everybody’s time…
