Somerset’s hardest rocking band The Tiny Face Experience treated us here at The Black Flag to a stunning 5 track EP showcasing a range of different flavours for every taste. Since the UK has come to an abrupt end due to the “Blizzard”, I found the perfect opportunity to crank it up and melt the icicles.

The EP opens with the very old school ‘Grunge’, an unashamed homage to grunge bands of old, with more than a dash of Nirvana and just a sprinkle of Alice in Chains this amazing track chugs along beautifully. The sound is thicker than a D grade Health and Social Care student, and three minutes in we are gifted with a cracking guitar solo that would make Slash blush.

Two Bridges and Come Back Again offer the same relentless beat with more crunch than a bag of Doritos, the singing is superb, so much grit it’s cleared the snow off my driveway yet soulful at the same time, like Chris Cornell. The vocals bring the lyrics alive, clever, well thought out, old school rhymes that flow with ease.

The EP stand-out track POV has it all, great lyrics, solid playing from a band that obviously knows what they’re doing, the sign of true quality is that every piece is just right, never too over-stated. Again, a beautiful guitar solo that screams through the house louder than a cheap hooker trying to impress the neighbours. Come to track five and a surprise change of pace, the bluesy Lost Boy wouldn’t be out of place in a smokey jazz bar, oozing sophistication and balancing the sound throughout, delivering a smooth performance which just maybe could’ve ended at 6 minutes instead of 8 but what’s two minutes amongst friends.

All-in-all, I love this EP, I happily listened to it several times before sitting down to give my opinion not because I couldn’t decide if I liked it, I liked it from the first track, but because it’s a collection of 5 awesome tracks that offer the perfect CV for a band that is sure to be selling out gigs all over the world this time next year. Look forward to a full studio album.
