If you read my review of the amazing debut single, Bed of Dolls, by Animal Hands and you loved the track even half as much as I did then you would have been foaming at the mouth waiting for the EP to be released.

I’m a massive fan of old-school 90’s grunge so for me when I heard Bed of Dolls,  it was like being on heroin and I’ve had to supplement my addiction with hours of Garbage  and similar bands until I could get myself another fix. Finally, it’s here, the EP that I’ve been waiting for and it was definitely worth the wait my friends, it was worth every sleepless night!

Oozing lashings of classic grunge angst, with it’s deep tones and slow pounding rhythm, the EP extends on what we were given in Bed of Dolls to explore the bands talent further and show the skill base of each member. Opening track Defiance is a subtle by sexy opener, slow and methodic in it’s demolition  of your ear drums, ready for second track Paper Crowns to open you up like a surgeon and really get into you. Track three is a beautiful and respectful cover of Matt Johnson’s (The The) This is the Day, and gives us a small insight into the musical influence of the band, while putting their own stamp on a very well known, and loved, song from the 80’s.

Overall, I love this EP, I love this band, and every track on here is a little pocket of greatness, never over-produced to mask imperfections but instead left raw as if the band were right there in your room with you. Too many albums spend hours going through mixers and computers with producers trying to get the perfect balance, in my view the band already has a perfect balance and it’s that raw, live, sound we love so much.

Well done to Animal Hands for a great opener to what will be a very long and successful career. Can’t wait to see the guys in a UK gig soon and maybe even a full length album next year. You can get your hands on the EP from 19th April 2013, for more details on where you can get your copy head to the bands Website or FaceBook.
