The internet is a wonderful thing but it isn’t ‘all seeing’. For example, I cannot find anything out on this band at all. Which makes researching (yes, I do research before these reviews) them pretty hard. However, I shall plough on and either lie (note from the Black Flag lawyers, BFL, – this is not advisable. DO NOT DO THIS) or just write around any factual points.

Viva La Pink are a band, led by the fantastic Missy Le Pink. That’s a fact. This EP is a 3 track release consisting of ‘Hell Kitty’, ‘Queen of Jack’ and ‘Pink Elephants’.  ‘Hell Kitty’ reminds of a 50’s or 60’s track with a solid drum beat, heavily featuring symbols and a guitar solo which isn’t dissimilar to something The Shadows (ask your parents) might have played.

‘Queen of Jack’ is either something to do with Jack Daniels or playing cards. It could be something else but they are my guesses. (BFL – really? You are guessing now?) The guitar solo in the middle eight is again nice and light and really suits the vocals displayed throughout the song. You cant help but tap your feet to this number. I can picture Viva La Pink playing at something like a 50’s/60’s revival tribute show.

‘Pink Elephants’ is slightly heavier than the previous two tracks and was written when the lead singer encountered a pink elephant in Sidcup. (BFL – what happened to no lies?). It’s the shortest track on the EP and again features the same musical style as the rest of the EP – 50’s/60’s style rock and roll.

All in and all, and for a band which could have made its fortune by selling their pink elephant story (BFL – we can’t stress enough, this isn’t true), it’s a nice EP and one definitely for those that look back in midst of times fondly – when if you wanted to know about a band you’d go a gig. Not rely on the internet.
