*** Radical blooze-punks launch new concept album with full live airing at London’s Madame JoJo’s on May 24th ***
“At the outset The Bermondsey Joyriders were contemplating Noise & Revolution…”, declares John Sinclair, as he begins the story of the blooze-punk concept piece which could be one of 2012’s most brilliantly bizarre releases.
Narrated throughout by performance poet Sinclair – a figure so intrinsic to 60s counterculture he is the subject of a Lennon song, ‘Noise & Revolution‘ is an ambitious and honestly unique offering from London trio the ‘Joyriders. Steeped in history by virtue of the members’ backgrounds playing with original ’77 rebels Chelsea, Johnny Thunders’ Oddballs and Strummer proteges The Little Roosters, the second record is nonetheless so highly original as to earn the right to its lofty ’revolutionary’ tag. First contemplating ‘Noise & Revolution’ more than a year ago, the band decided against all advice to debut their concept piece live and in full, to an audience who had not previously heard a note, at London’s legendary 100 Club last May. From there, further live airings established a growing cult following for the album, and offered it a route-to-release perhaps even stranger than the fictional story it spins.
‘Noise & Revolution’ gets its long-anticipated release on May 28th, when it is due to be made available as a digital download via Cadiz music, and self-released on limited edition digipak CD and high-quality 180g vinyl housed in a unique gatefold sleeve.
Fittingly, the band mark the occasion by performing the album in its entirely once again, at a London launch night set for May 24th at Madame JoJo’s. Possessing a formidable stage presence, proven in the cries for an encore they attracted when still honing the material last summer as openers to Marky Ramone and Jello Biafra, The Bermondsey Joyriders are set to pull out all the stops at this show celebrating just how far they have travelled, from first conceiving ‘Noise & Revolution’ to fully realizing and releasing it.
