It looks like the dynamic duo of alternative radio are in trouble down under. Our very own Presley and D’Lear, presenters of the Sanctuary Radio Show, have seriously upset the Australian public with their latest broadcast of their live weekly Drag Radio Show.
Wayne Spicer, born and bred Aussie BBQ king, after reading the above headline on an Australian website has now decided to start a campaign to get the boys banned from radio in the land of kiwi’s and Piri Piri BBQ’s. We caught up with Mr Spicer to find out just what is his problem with the brilliantly comedic show.
The Black Flag: So Mr Spicer. Just what is your problem with the show?
Wayne Spicer: Strewth where do I begin? Well firstly it’s the name mate….
TBF: The name?
Wayne: Yeah. Drag Radio. The people of Australia don’t want to listen to a pair of drag queens on the radio. We’re tough Australian fellas who love Surfing and BBQs. Why would we want to listen to a pair of Drag Queens? It makes no sense, I’m all for diversity and all that but do they have to rub their way of life in our faces. Nah its not right mate…
TBF: I think that’s just the name. I don’t think either Presley or D’Lear are Drag Queens…..
Wayne: Then why call it that eh mate? They must call it that for a reason mustn’t they?
TBF: Maybe it’s called that because of Drag Racing?………
Wayne: Like that show with Rupaul. I’ve seen that a few times. I’d like to ban that as well. Why I have to get subjected to fellas in dresses every week, is beyond me
TBF: You could simply not watch it
TBF: Moving on. What else did you find offensive
Wayne: Drag Radio, English, plastic surgeon Aliens, A depressed Andy Murray, Yodelling Britney Spears, Nun abortions, Musical Pope, Emo father abuse…….Is this what radio has become? This says it all surely!
TBF: Your actually trying to get the show banned in Australia. Is that correct?
Wayne: Too right I am mate. I’ve set up the APDR with my wife Francine
Wayne: Australian People Against Drag Radio. We now have three members including the Dog. Basically we want the show banned in Australia and we want both presenters banned from ever setting foot in our fair country. I’ve written to the Prime Minister about this problem and I’m waiting to hear back from him now. Hangings too good for the pair of them….
The Australian Prime Minister was unavailable to comment, so we caught up with Presley to get his side of the story:
TBF: So what’s your opinion of Mister Spicers campaign against Drag Radio?
Presley: Can’t say we blame him really, Australians aren’t known for their sense of humour. Mind you, Home and Away makes us laugh.
TBF: Who’s your favourite character?
Presley: Vinnie, the daft lifeguard. Mind you, he’s in True Blood now……how the fuck did that happen?
TBF: Yeah I like Vinnie. It’s good that the mentally challenged are being portrayed so positively on the show. Anyway would you like to make a formal apology to the good people of Australia?
Presley: No! Not after Mitchell Johnson intimidated our cricket team with his ridiculous 19th century moustache.
TBF: I suppose that more than evens the score. Lastly any plans to visit down under in the future? Perhaps a walk on part on Ramsey Street?
Presley: D’lear is always on the look out for any chance of visiting down under! A cameo in Neighbours would be great, we could be Paul Robinson’s carers……we have more modern prosthetics in the UK. In all seriousness though, we would love to know who actually wrote the original piece regarding our show. We’re not quite sure if it’s damaging or not? Maybe being offensive is the way to go, look at Justin Bieber.

For those that haven’t heard it before the DRAG Radio Show is presented by Presley and Dlear and is one of the most unique radio shows on Earth (there may be other similar shows on distant planets) It’s part music show and part comedy show. It includes sketches and characters all written and performed by it’s two presenters, as well as Rock n’ Roll stories, mishaps and faux pas’. It’s a show that has a big cult following and is now beginning to spread to the masses. The talent of the two presenters is what makes this radio show work so well, the banter between them is both funny and endearing and the writing (mostly improv) is sublime. It’s been described by journalists as “It’s Rock n’Roll, It’s Ridiculous and it’s Pure Genius”
