We’ve all heard the expression you can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs and sometimes it’s true in the case of bands. When we heard of the demise of East Sussex metallers BlackDown we were saddened, but then we heard about Forgotten fear and our woes were all but forgotten… see what I did there?
The news that Blackdown’s vocally explosive beauty Kate Maunsell and axe hammering Dan Ranger were venturing out together to form a new band gave me a little tingle. I’ve always loved Melodic Metal, and being a Hastings boy myself it’s always good when I can find a local band I really love.
We were graced recently with a treat from the band in the form of ‘Inshallah’ a track that relates to Dan’s time in the Middle East as a teenager. I had high hopes for this track given it’s pedigree and well all I can say was if this is a first track then what is going to to come is gonna blow us all away. This is true epic storytelling through the medium of Melodic metal, no fucking about with violins and orchestras, just drums, guitars and one awesome voice, lead guitar in this case is handled by the very talented Ben Taylor of Vulgate.
Inshallah doesn’t just chug along relentlessly like many other tracks we hear in this genre, it flows like blood across a battle field, filling every crack it finds, never quite settling in one place for too long, which keeps it alive, and in my opinion that’s what a track like this, which is telling a true story should be like, because life has it’s ups and down, so should it soundtrack. Guitars and Vocals mould together effortlessly, but the production was never going to be an issue, these guys could play this in their sleep, it’s the writing that really makes the track, intelligent and articulate throughout, bold enough to keep your interest but real enough to keep you grounded.
I am very excited about what we can expect from Forgotten Fear in the future, and I’m not the only one, we will keep you all up to date with new releases and news from these guys and maybe try to get a few words from the band themselves.
