Hastings based metal machines Blackdown have released a new track on SoundCloud called Senlac Hill which is based on the famous Battle Of Hastings, which took place in 1066. The seasoned band already have an impressive EP under their belt, could this lay the path for an album? let’s see.

The term METAL is thrown about a lot these days, taken on by any pussy boy band who happen to include a guitar solo in their stuff, but real metal is more than that, real metal is about mighty riffs, big hooks, gripping choruses and of course howling solos. Blackdown tick all the boxes, ripping apart the genre and opening the arteries of preconception, they deliver more metal in five minutes than an Apache gunship attacking a mud hut.

Senlac Hill is one of those iconic, melodic metal tracks opening tentatively and building, growing in it’s depth, stomping relentlessly like an army marching to slaughter it’s enemy until the full weight of the band kicks in led by the powerful vocal onslaught that comes from vocalist Kate Maunsell. Add in a guitar solo near the end that screams so loud deaf people can hear it and you’ve got a recipe for total metal domination.

The track is true metal in it’s basest form and is welcome reminder of what true Heavy Metal should sound like, with it’s triumphant lyrics, growling riffs and a solo that’s catchier than Syphilis there is no way this band can’t record a full album this year and present it, heads held aloft, to the world.

If you want to hear more from this amazing band then follow them on their website or you can follow them socially on FaceBook, SoundCloud, Twitter or MySpace.

The Mighty Machine Steve, forged in the heart of a collapsing sun, born in The Dark Star, the soul of Heavy Metal. He is the Apollo Creed of Alternative Music.... except not black.
